Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the Wii is a sub-version/continuation of the original game, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved found on the XBox Live service. Though many argue that the original MSRP of this game is a way to just take Wii owners for a ride when the game is really worth $10 on Xbox Live, the game is quite amazing to just Retro Evolved. This review is only going to be a review of Galaxies, not a comparison of Retro Evolved vs Galaxies.
Gameplay: There are 2 forms of game play specifically for the Wii. You can go with the WiiMote and Nunchuck for the new “improved” Wii style or you can get the classic controller to play with the original setup. Either way, both styles of play are very reminiscent of playing Robotron or Smash TV. 1 controller moves your ship in any direction and the other controller will shoot in that direction.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are so simple they are incredible. The best representation of having a vector graphics system, like a Vectrex, without having the real thing. The small things like paying homage to the original SpaceWar! ships to the bullets ripping through background grid all add to the experience of a great game.
Sound: The sounds and music of this game add to the manic side of this shooter.
Overall: This game is worth every penny. With the age of this game it can now be purchased well underneath the MSRP. Also, owners of this game that also have a DS also have the option of downloading content fro the Wii to the DS. You can send Retro Evolved over to your portable to unlock more levels for the Wii version.
